Title: "May 1969"

On May 13 1969 I was a RTO with Alpha Company 1/46th Infantry. That day was the start of the battle that lasted 35 hours. As a company of 91 men we were moved into a position to encounter 250 to 300 NVA. As the battle went on we were down to 47 men. At that time we escaped total loss by running through rice paddies under the cover of smoke. Which was provided by white phosphorous rounds fired at the rise paddies. I believe that decision saved my life. During those 35 hour's the actions of our CO Kern Dunagan save what was left of the company. Kern received the Medal of Honor. I am here today because of him.
